Minor League Scorebook
- From today's Baseball America Daily Dish, we discover that old Dodger pal Andy Ashby (grump, grump, grump) is still at it in the minors: he "pitched three innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run in high Class A Lake Elsinore's 6-5 win over Inland Empire on Monday."
- Remember the big changes to the minors that were proposed a couple weeks ago? Well, the owners have postponed a vote on the matter. So far, the general managers have voted 23-7 in favor (including MLB, the owner of the Washington Nationals); the nay votes seem to be coming principally from teams like the Braves, Cubs, and Twins who are old-school scouting-and-tools player development teams. It would be interesting to know how the Dodgers and Angels voted on these changes.
- Of interest in time for tomorrow's scheduled start by Jered Weaver comes this interview by Joel Hamrahi at Baseball Digest Daily. Excerpts:
BDD: How does your arm feel right now? Do you feel like you're back to where you were before the layoff?
JW: Yeah, you know I'm still hitting a little fatigue wall in the 6th or 7th inning. Hopefully I can go a little further each time out. They (the Angels) have me on a strict 90 pitch count right now. I'm still getting used to the (strike) zone here, but hopefully, given a little time, everything will take care of itself.

BDD: Describe you time at Long Beach compared to your time in the pros so far. What are the main differences?
JW: The zone is a little tighter (at the professional level). It's more important to get ahead of the hitters with one strike. It's important to get outs early in the count and not worry about trying to strike out every hitter.
BDD: Do you feel that your best pitch is still your fastball?
JW: Yeah, my fastball is still my biggest pitch. I can command it fairly well right now. After a couple outings and more conditioning, I feel it (fastball) will be back to where it should be.
BDD: Do you feel that the hitters at the different levels are more patient than they were in college?
JW: Yeah, definitely. They're not chasing as many bad pitches. That's something else I need to get adjusted to. There aren't as many free swingers. They look for their pitch more.
