BP Catchup
UTK
With linkies where appropriate:- Rich Harden is done for the regular season.
- J.T. Snow's hamstring strain may keep him out for the rest of the year.
- Bobby Kielty was supposed to be available over the weekend, but hasn't played yet.
- Mike Piazza will have "a classy curtain call" from the Mets before the season is over as a victory lap celebrating a great career.
- Will says the idea that the Astros could get back slugger Morgan Ensberg this week is "farfetched". Obviously, this could make a big difference in Houston's bid to return to the postseason.
- Bobby Crosby will supposedly rejoin the A's Tuesday.
Tom Gorman On The Angels
- The Angels are more likely than the A's to make the postseason? Yes, because (when this was written) the Angels were a game ahead of the A's, and now two games up. (That amounts to a 58.7% shot then, according to BP's Postseason Odds Report, versus a 65% chance now.) That's a lot to make up, but remember the Angels were three games back of the A's last year at the end of September 1 ... and two games back going into September 19. Sound familiar? Once again, the season will be decided in Oakland.
Incidentally, the Angels are outperforming their third-order win-loss record by three games; by third-order win-loss record, the A's come out on top of the pack with an 85-64 record, while the Angels are in third place with an 81-68 record.
- Steve Finley is, with the passage of time, not the third-worst player in baseball, but the second-worst.
- Brandon Wood is a stud. (What, you didn't know that?)
Comments:
Does UTK really say Harden's done for sure? The stuff I've been reading has been very wishy-washy on that topic...
The exact quote, in full:
Rich Harden appears lost for the rest of the regular season. The strained lat shut down Ben Sheets and now looks for another victim. The A's are publicly saying that Harden could start the last week of the season. I've also publicly said that Jodie Foster is the mother of my children; saying things doesn't make them so. The A's may not need Harden to make the playoffs, but they'll need something from him if they hope to get any farther in the playoffs than they have in the recent past.
