Pickoff Moves

OT: The Register Joins The 20th Century

Richard points out that the Register has a completely redesigned website. While it doesn't appear to be coincident, Netcraft now reports Apache behind the scenes, versus Sun's annoying, slow, Java-fueled Netscape server, which they clearly junked some while ago (at least before May). I'm a big proponent of LAMP technologies (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl) for website construction, and this development is a good one. The paper explains its more recent content and organizational changes here. As usual, they've buried their Dodgers coverage, a bit of maneuvering that seems petty to me. Not that it matters, because none of their content regarding LA proper's only baseball team doesn't seem to have arrived there yet anyway. The sidebar links have been duly updated.

Nice Hooters!

It's hazing time, and Dodgers' rookies all got to wear Hooters waitress costumes:
But there were two aspects of this year's shenanigans that were particularly striking, and no, it wasn't the way these guys looked in skin-tight, white tank tops and tiny orange shorts.

First, the prank came in the wake of what should have been another crushing defeat, this time 5-3 to San Francisco in front of 42,659 at SBC Park, the Dodgers' third loss in a row to the hated Giants. The fact this level of fun could come immediately after this level of agony made it clear the Dodgers finally have resigned themselves to the inevitability of playing out the string.

Second, those Hooters uniforms were just so plentiful. There were 10 of them, to be exact - one for every rookie on the team, except Mike Edwards, who was hazed during his brief callup with Oakland last year, and Edwin Jackson, still technically a rookie despite getting his foray into cross dressing out of the way two years ago.

It's good that they're preparing for a career working the Queen Mary, because frankly, these guys aren't going to cut it in the bigs for the most part.

Hard to drop weight when your taking Human Growth Hormone. Sort of counter-productive.
