- The Snakes re-signed groundball specialist Brandon Webb to a four-year deal worth $19.5M, probably one of their smarter deals of the offseason. They need, need, need guys who can keep the ball on the ground over in that hitter's paradise. No reaction yet from the Snakes bloggers, who are on hiatus or busy remembering when their team used to really suck.
- The Snakes also avoided arbitration with occaisionally good but never consistently so righty Luis Vizcaino, terms unknown.
- Former Angel Matt Wise got a 2-year, $1.7M contract with the Brewers.
- Aaron Cook, who had surgery to remove a life-threatening blood clot in his lungs, signed a two-year deal with the Rockies, which the Denver Post says will be a $4.35M contract, including a third-year club option.
- Former Red Sox and Yankees lefty Alan Embree has signed a minor league deal with the Padres. Apparently, he was a Padre before but he just didn't make much of an impression. Perhaps the reason he looked so bad last year were the five bone chips and two spurs removed from his elbow in the offseason, which could mean the Pads just got a steal.
- The M's reached a $1.875M, two-year agreement with reliever Julio Mateo. Even mediocrities like Mateo are getting big bucks, though Lookout Landing doesn't seem to mind, considering the shape the rotation is in.
- Rotoworld reports that former Dodger prospect-turned-suspect Joe Thurston signed with the Phillies in a minor league deal.

Now here’s something you don’t see every day: Kendrick has the highest projection of any second baseman in baseball including Jeff Kent (who won’t even be a second baseman anymore), Marcus Giles and Brian Roberts. You just don’t get any more ready for the bigs than that....

Wood--along with Kendrick--give the Angels the keystone combo on this list which is really, really something they should be grinning about like a bunch of idiots. To have this kind of talent up the middle should make everyone in the front office do an organizational jig. Wood is only 20 and the dust has to settle on his 43-homer year at Rancho Cucamonga but both he and Aybar--who is two years older--project higher than incumbent Orlando Cabrera (13.2)
