They Hates Us, They Do
Tim Dierkes -- how to say this nicely, or should I bother? -- embarrasses himself with his Top 50 Pitchers for fantasy leagues, in two parts. What. The. Hell? A senescent Randy Johnson rates fourth? His K/BB and K/9 rates have both dropped significantly in his first year with the Yankees, and at 42, he's no spring chicken... The recently injured Pedro Martinez? The chronically injured Jason Schmidt? I see a lot of iffy "aces" in that list; for the Angels, Bartolo Colon (#24) and John Lackey (#41) (and just missing the cut, Kelvim Escobar!) make this list. The only Dodgers to make the list are Brad Penny, and Odalis Perez as an honorable mention. Escobar puts up a 3.02 ERA and strikes out more than a batter an inning, and is more than ten years younger! Yet he ranks lower than Johnson and his 3.79 ERA. What gives?
Thanks to Matt Welch for the nod.
