Scores

2006-04-25: Salt Lake 11, Portland 8 #
Aybar, E: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Murphy: 4-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 1 K
Gorneault: 1-5, 2 K
McPherson: 1-5, 1 3B, 2 K
Napoli, M: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Morales: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Specht: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Pride: 0-5, 4 K
Bootcheck: 4.1 IP, 5 ER, 1 HR, 5.19 ERA
Wilhite, M: (W, 1-1) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 2.19 ERA
Bulger: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
You weren't nobody but that you didn't homer in this game, I reckon. (Sorry, Dallas, but a lone triple doesn't cut it anymore.) Tommy Murphy was the night's star, practically carrying his team on the strength of a 7 RBI game. Besides Murphy, Kendry Morales and Brian Specht also homered. On the other side of the offensive spectrum, Curtis Pride collected a golden sombrero.

Chris Bootcheck gave up a homer to go with his five earned runs, and didn't last through five. Rafael Cruz Chavez gave up a homer to Jack Cust, and now has a 11.31 ERA; Jason Bulger, whom I just added to my watchlist, got the save and still has that shiny 0.00 ERA after 11.2 IP, with 15 K's to add some flavor.

2006-04-25: Wichita 12, Arkansas 3 #
Wood: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Eylward: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 BB
Aspito: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Hunter: (L, 1-2), 3.1 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 5 BB, 1 HR, 7.58 ERA
Brandon Wood homered, doubled, and walked in a losing effort that saw the Travs strand 12. Starter Chris Hunter failed to get out of the fourth inning. The Travs are 2-8 on their ill-fated home stand, and head on the road for seven games.
2006-04-25: Lake Elsinore 11, Rancho Cucamonga 4 #
Rodriguez, S: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Collins: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Johnson: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Toussaint: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
Arredondo: 4.2 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 9 K, 4 BB, 2.75 ERA
Jepsen: (BS, 1), 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1.17 ERA
Hawkins: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 31.50 ERA
Tied going into extra innings, the Storm quickly and definitively answered who would win this contest by scoring seven times against relatively new callup Daniel Hawkins, sending twelve men to the plate. Hawkins gave up a leadoff homer in the 10th, got a fielded out when Chase Headley tried stretching a single into a double, and then got a groundout against Colt Morton. Matt Pali came in to restore order after Hawkins couldn't record an out against the next seven batters, but then Pali gave up a run on a wild pitch strikeout. Adding insult to injury, Michael Collins recorded three errors, two on throws and one on catcher's interference.
2006-04-25: Cedar Rapids 0, Lansing 4 #
Statia: 0-4, 1 K
Marek: (L, 1-1), 5.2 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 2.31 ERA
You cannot win if you score zero runs. Still a pretty good outing for Marek, though; Lansing three-hit the Kernels.
2006-04-25: AZL Angels did not play
2006-04-25: Orem did not play
Valdez: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
Garcia: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Aybar: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Guzman, J: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Ethier: 0-1
Loney: 3-4
Martin, R: 0-0, 1 BB
Young, D: 0-1
Juarez: 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 2.66 ERA
Reid: (L, 1-1) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 6.75 ERA
Broxton: 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
I know I have a few readers who are fans of both the Dodgers and the A's; how do you feel on a night when their affiliates play? Though the 51's outhit the River Cats, the Cats took the game anyway. Delwyn Young and Andre Ethier both appeared as pinch hitters and went 0-1. James Loney had a stolen base in addition to his solo homer. Jonathan Broxton has yet to allow an earned run in 9.2 IP.
2006-04-25: Birmingham 7, Jacksonville 2 #
Hu: 0-4, 1 K
Abreu: 1-4, 1 RBI
Kemp: 1-3, 1 BB
LaRoche: 0-4, 2 K
Zapp: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Cresse: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Raglani: 0-4, 3 K
Lundberg: (L, 2-1), 5.0 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1.31 ERA
Revenge for last night!
2006-04-25: Vero Beach 4, Palm Beach 3 #
Dewitt: 1-4, 1 K
Carter, R: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 3 RBI, 2 K
Denker, T: 1-4, 1 K
Paul, X: 0-4, 1 K
Hoffmann: 1-3, 1 BB
Mooneyham: 2-4, 1 K
Johnson, B: 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 3.57 ERA
Castillo, A: (W, 2-1) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 5.19 ERA
Good, not great, night for Johnson, who gave up a few too many hits for me to like. Vero won this game in the top of the ninth on a Gabriel Gutierrez sac fly double play.
2006-04-25: Columbus 5, Rome 6 #
May: 3-4, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Mitchell: 3-4, 1 2B
Harper: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
De Jesus: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Bastardo: (L, 2-1), 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 7 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 2.11 ERA
Four earned runs over five innings and Bastardo still has an ERA closer to 2.00 than to 3.00. Amazing.
2006-04-25: GCL Dodgers did not play
2006-04-25: Ogden did not play

Comments:
It's better than that on Bulger. Tonight's 2 Ks were in addition to the 15 he already had...so that's 17 Ks in 11.2 innings.

Who sez we didn't get goods for Callaspo?

eh, it's a regular season minor league game, so winning or losing that particular one doesn't matter all that much. i just root for the prospects to do well.

if the A's and dodgers meet in the world series, i would be happy no matter who won, and just root for a good game. i would feel like i already had won before game 1 even started. if it had been a long time for one of the teams, i'd probably root for that one slightly but not be disappointed either way.
