Pickoff Moves
Helen Says, Thanks Nomar: Dodgers 6, Astros 2
Speaking of fading stars, when we got to Angel Stadium last night, who did we find with a game-winning grand slam — in the ninth, yet? No one other than Nomar Garciaparra, that's who. That's Nomar, helping the Cubs and the Dodgers at the same time. Maybe things come together a little for the Dodgers this year, eh?

Today's Birthdays

Darren Holmes LAN b. 1966, played 1990
Tony Phillips CAL,ANA b. 1959, played 1995-1997. The Halosphere collective wrote a brief biopiece on him back in December as part of the Top 100 Angels series. The highlight of his Angels career was his impressive late-career 1997 season, when he sparked the club with an outstanding .392 OBP as a leadoff hitter.
Ken Tatum CAL b. 1944, played 1969-1970
Roster Notes
- Maicer Izturis' hamstring injury is serious, and will keep him out significantly longer than the 15 days he's scheduled for.
- Bartolo Colón played catch in the outfield yesterday; there is still no timetable for his return.
- Odalis Perez, the subject of player criticism last year? Say it ain't so!
- 2005 first-round pick and certified headcase Luke Hochevar signed with the indy league Fort Worth Cats.
- Esteban Loaiza will probably miss his next start, but Huston Street is expected to return to action after a bullpen session today.
- The Diamondbacks have removed Russ Ortiz from the rotation following his terrible outing Sunday against the Dodgers. The Snakes owe Ortiz a combined $16M for this year's and next year's efforts, and have yet to designate a replacement. When I saw him, it amazed me how thick his his butt has gotten since his days in San Francisco.
Comments:
Wasn't it sweet how Nomar hit hs grand salami with wife Mia Hamm in the stands last night?
If it wasn't for Mia - would Nomar still be in Boston? Crazy question I know - a blog in and of itself...
