Pickoff Moves

Today's Birthdays

And once again, a diffident bunch.

Bob Bailor LAN b. 1951, played 1984-1985

Larry Burright LAN b. 1937, played 1962

Rich Hand CAL b. 1948, played 1973

Lee Stevens CAL b. 1967, played 1990-1992

OT: Well, Thank God That's Over: Italy 6, France 4

Italy won the World Cup 6-4 on penalty kicks, and if that's the last time I ever have to hear about that damnable running-around-in-place game, it'll only be too soon. Sheesh.

Roster Notes

Some AN Stuff To Read

A couple good threads over at Athletics Nation to read for Angels fans for whom the two-back rainbow is not enuf: this about the A's failings at the halfway point, including this exegesis on the draft:
Why is Southern California drafting so much better then us, ten fold. It can not just be the money. We have 1 blue chip prospect, they each seem to have ten. Even if we use the excuse of calling up most of our system to help us in the majors, the draft board has to do its job better.
Just as Stephen Smith once predicted. Then, yes, the inevitable A's-or-Angels will represent the AL West and how depressing is that when both teams are so glaringly bad?

Comments:
Do they realize the A's don't have any prospects because they bring them up to the bigs?

He mentioned that in the bit I excerpted.

Thw World Cup game actually was 5-3 in penalty kicks.

Well, I guess we'll know definitively by next Monday whether they should keep him or cut him.

I don't think it's glaringly obvious anymore that the Angels are particularly bad; they're nine games over .500 since May 26. While you can't just ignore their early struggles, if they start the second half as well as they finished the first they'll be in pretty good shape. They have holes, definitely, but they're getting better.

Whoops. To be fair, I'm not usually up this early.

Seitz, now you're just being a jerk. Knock it off. I'm tired of being intentionally misread. Your characterization is completely off-base and disingenuous.

Rob, seriously, you need to lighten up a little. I was just teasing.

Besides, you're the one that called me out to begin with.

I love the World Cup!

Cupie

Whatever, Seitz. Let's just call it even and move on.
