OT: Well, Thank God That's Over: Italy 6, France 4
Italy won the World Cup 6-4 on penalty kicks, and if that's the last time I ever have to hear about that damnable running-around-in-place game, it'll only be too soon. Sheesh.Roster Notes
- Adam Kennedy wants to stay an Angel, and good luck with that, then.
- Mike Scioscia will alter the rotation post-All-Star break. The new order will be Lackey, Santana, Colon, Weaver, and Escobar. Being fifth in that rotation is hardly a slapdown; I'd be willing to wager he's a top five number five in the league if not the majors.
- Jered Weaver will get a huge test as a rookie a week from today as he faces the Indians for the second time. There you go, Seitz.
- The Dodgers aren't interested in taking a flyer on Sidney Ponson, something Colletti learned from his time in San Francisco.
- Jeff Kent is expected to be available after the All-Star break.
- The Arizona Diamondbacks have extended manager Bob Melvin's contract by another two years. (Hat tip: BTF.)
Some AN Stuff To Read
A couple good threads over at Athletics Nation to read for Angels fans for whom the two-back rainbow is not enuf: this about the A's failings at the halfway point, including this exegesis on the draft:Why is Southern California drafting so much better then us, ten fold. It can not just be the money. We have 1 blue chip prospect, they each seem to have ten. Even if we use the excuse of calling up most of our system to help us in the majors, the draft board has to do its job better.Just as Stephen Smith once predicted. Then, yes, the inevitable A's-or-Angels will represent the AL West and how depressing is that when both teams are so glaringly bad?
Comments:
I don't think it's glaringly obvious anymore that the Angels are particularly bad; they're nine games over .500 since May 26. While you can't just ignore their early struggles, if they start the second half as well as they finished the first they'll be in pretty good shape. They have holes, definitely, but they're getting better.
