Frank Howard LAN b. 1936, played 1958-1964, All-Star: 1968-1971. And yes, I still think it was a mistake to trade him for Claude Osteen, regardless of what Osteen may have done in the postseason. Rookie of the Year in 1960, and one heckuva hitter, he was only one dinger behind Harmon Killebrew with 48 in 1969, and led the AL with the Senators in 1968 with 44. The late 60's Dodgers would have been far more interesting with Howard and Roberto Clemente.

A sweep! A sweep! Okay, so it was only a one-game series. Three of the Angels' runs came on solo homers, including one from Jose Molina, and even Chone Figgins, he of the lately disreputable bat, drove in a run. All six runs came off the slumping Mark Buehrle, who earned a losing record of 9-10 on the season.Roster Notes
- Since I'm getting slammed, I'll lead off with an ex-Dodger news item: it appears now that Sonia Lo Duca has also charged estranged husband Paul with heavy gambling debts incurred at the racetrack. The New York Daily News says the debts are so large that the Mets are aware of them, but Lo Duca also rebuts those charges in a front-page story in today's editions.
- And now, back to the normal course of events ... Bartolo Colon will be out no less than six months, the amount of time it took for Pedro Martinez to recover from a similar injury. FutureAngels reminds us that Joe Saunders (ironically enough, the man who replaced Colon in the rotation) came back from a similar injury when he was pitching with Rancho.
- Brad Penny has not surrendered jersey number 31 to Greg Maddux, who's worn that number throughout his career.
- The Mets claimed Ricky Ledee off waivers.
- Elmer Dessens' DL stint is retroactive to August 3. He has a sprained ankle.
Time Warner Launches Dodgers On Demand Channel
According to the Times and dodgers.com, the Dodgers will launch a new Dodgers On Demand channel starting Wednesday, featuring "classic games and past and present player profiles". Programming will be year-round.

Of course, one wonders what the large intestine's status would be if he had taken the six months or so necessary to rehab the shoulder starting back in, say, December or January (allowing for almost two months of inactivity after the ALCS) when he first suffered the injury. The way I look at it, he's basically six months behind schedule. Of course, Spring Training is approximately six months away, so from an optimist's point of view, Bart could be back fairly early next year.

The Dodgers of the 1960's were cutting it up a little too loudly on the team bus in Vero and Walter Alston, riding in the front, had the bus stopped and told the players they could knock it off or step outside. No one did.
