Clem Labine Dies At 80
Clem Labine died at 80; following brain surgery to investigate a mass in his head. Labine was instrumental in bringing the Dodgers their first World Series title in 1955, making four appearances in that year's World Series, over 9.1 IP, while allowing only three earned runs. Despite the statistic not being kept in those days, Labine led the league in saves from 1956-1957.
"Clem Labine was one of the main reasons the Dodgers won it all in 1955," said Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully. "He had the heart of a lion and the intelligence of a wily fox ... and he was a nice guy, too. He will be truly missed by all who knew him."
