Has Beane? A's Acquire Jack Cust From Padres

Catfish Stew passes along a San Francisco Chronicle blog report that the A's have re-acquired once-upon-a-phenom Jack Cust, for a PTBNL or cash.

Cust's 1999 season for then-Arizona Cal League affiliate High Desert got eyes popping; he hit 32 dingers that year, but he so far seems to be iron pyrite in the majors. Since then, he's played in the systems of and/or had cups of coffee with Colorado, Baltimore, Oakland, and San Diego. Last year, he hit 30 homers with AAA Portland carrying a .293/.467/.549 line as a 27-year-old.

Jokingly, Philip Michaels recently wrote "I'm glad I've been rooting for the A's long enough to remember what it was like when Billy Beane was still a genius." Beane isn't an idiot, but I do wonder how many of his trades have ended up overrated.

Willing to reconsider Beane's acquisition of Cust?

Sure. In August.

It's August now, Rob... 20 homers and 63 RBI's later, not to mention a .404 OBP, a .550 SLG. I think someone needs to do some reconsidering!!! :)

Cust is on my fantasy team.
