Kuo Dodgers! Dodgers 4, Mets 1
The obvious highlight of the game was the consecutive jacks from Wilson Betemit, Matt Kemp, and — most improbably — starter Hong-Chih Kuo. Kuo made it stand up through seven, something of a surprise, because unlike last year when they struggled against left-handed pitching, the Mets were hitting .316/.375/.464 against southpaws going into the game.
With the series victory, the Dodgers go with added confidence into tomorrow's game, a match between Jorge Sosa and Brad Penny. As I said yesterday, Sosa appears, as with others in the Mets rotation, to be pitching over his head. With the Dodgers now tied for second in the division with Arizona (the Padres are still percentage points above the Dodgers thanks to fewer losses), both teams can claim a share of the 37 wins it takes to yell, "Most wins in the league!" without being wrong.
