- Jon offered two of his frequent commenters, CanuckDodger and Nate Purcell,
space to discuss the Dodgers' 2007 draft. Canuck thinks Logan
White's sixth draft with Los Angeles "finally raised the Jolly
Roger" on expectations from Baseball America and the
scouting community, defying them one and all by drafting Chris
Withrow, James Adkins, Michael Watt, Austin Gallagher, and
Andrew Lambo "earlier (sometimes much earlier)" than BA had
ranked them. Given White's successful identification of
prepsters who later blossom into even better college stars
(e.g. Luke Hochevar, Richie Robnett, and Matt Antonelli), this
is probably a good thing.
The one fly in the ointment? The Dodgers' (read: Frank McCourt's) apparent unwillingness (so far) to exceed slot bonuses. The Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Angels all have overspent slots simply because they need to inject talent into their farm systems, and if the Dodgers are to compete, they need to follow suit.
Purcell discusses Glenn Gallagher, "[a] 6-5, 220 behemoth of a kid" whose bat wows already with "light tower power", but whose baseball skills are "raw". Of fourth-rounder Andrew Lambo, he writes, "Right field is Lambo's most likely destination".
- MILB.com's weekly league notebook summary post went up — with a dateline of yesterday, but it wasn't available then.

Echoing Kelvim Escobar's high-strikeout, bad-results game at the major league level, here we have this stinker. If only Greg Jones could contain his hits, he might be a useful player at the major league level — he doesn't walk too many.

The Travs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but Springfield jumped all over Miguel Gonzalez in a six-run third that saw him surrender six consecutive one-out singles. Sounds like the Angels' offense. The Travs came all the way back to tie it in the sixth, but little-used Rich Thompson gave up the winning run in the top of the eighth when he surrendered a solo homer to Tyler Greene.
