Cubs Trade Cesar Izturis To Pirates For A PTBNL

How far Cesar Izturis's fortunes have slipped that the Cubs are shipping him to Pittsburgh for a player to be named later. It might be a prelude to a trade of Jack Wilson, or, as some of the BTF commenters suggest, it could be Jim Tracy trying to collect the whole set of lousy-hitting, sharp-glove infielders. One BCB commenter notes that this represents the Cubs letting Greg Maddux go for nothing, and from that perspective, it would be consistent with the Jim Hendry front office.

I would argue that acquiring Izturis for Maddux in the first place WAS letting Maddux go for nothing.

If the PTBNL, who will likely be a low minor leaguer, turns out to be anything decent, that'll be the return for Maddux.

Izturis was absolutely worthless as a Cub.
