Jonathan Rouwenhorst was worse, though, surrendering eight runs, six earned. Greg Jones got the win in relief, striking out five through two and two-thirds; Marcus Gwyn held on through two walks and an error to collect his 13th save.

Greg Porter homered and drove in three by himself, and Matt Brown also drove in two on a longball. Nick Gorneault, Tommy Murphy, Adam Pavkovich, Budde, and Gary Patchett all had two or more hits in a wild one; Salt Lake survived three errors, two of which were throwing errors by Matt Brown.

Alex McRobbie got his first Cal League win of the year, aided by a three-run second inning that saw Inland Empire starter Mario Alvarez uncork two wild pitches, one of which scored a run, and two hit batters.

Christopher Pettit got two hits and a walk, and drove in a pair. The former Loyola Marymount product seems bored with Cal League pitching, pwning them to tune of .369/.449/.658 in 111 AB's, with eight homers.

Marshall McDougall had three hits including an 8th-inning two-run, two-out homer, finishing only a triple short of the cycle.

Miguel Pinango was an unearned run beyond a quality start, if that counts. Veteran Chris Fussell earned his first save.

Miguel Ramirez continued his string of fine pitching, extending a scoreless streak to nine straight games. He's only allowed seven runs (five earned) all year, while striking out better than a batter per nine.

Ogden capped scoring in an eight-run sixth with Brian Mathews' grand slam; two Orem batters were plunked by Great Falls pitching in that inning, and both of them scored. The oddly named Given Kutz got the win in relief.

So what's with this Greg Porter guy at SLC? It looks like he's putting up some impressive numbers. He's a bit long in the tooth I suppose, as he turns 27 next month. Still, seems like he might be a useful bat. Will we see him in September?

Magic Prospect Eight Ball says: Yes.

Mathis may return to SLC and be riding the pine if Ryan Budde is for real?
