Minor League Scorebook

2007-08-05: Salt Lake 6, Round Rock 1 #
Aybar: 1-4, 1 K
Evans: 1-4, 1 K
Morales: 1-4, 1 K
Wood: 3-4, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K
Murphy: 0-4
Wilson: 1-4, 1 K
Olenberger: (W, 10-5), 7.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 8 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 4.50 ERA
Brandon Wood homered and drove in two more on a pair of RBI singles for a season-high four RBIs. Erick Aybar played in his third rehab game, and actually has a three-game hitting streak going. Kendry Morales has an 11-game on-base streak going which sounds more impressive when you consider that it started on June 22 — the day before he was called up.

Kasey Olenberger got the win by pitching a quality-plus start, his first in over a month.

2007-08-05: Wichita 6, Arkansas 5 #

O'Day: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 3.50 ERA
Down 6-3 in the eighth, Arkansas mounted a two-run rally in the eighth that came close but failed as Michael Collins and Cody Fuller both stranded the tying runner. Fernando Rodriguez, Jr. took the loss, his third, one out and one run away from a quality start.
2007-08-05: Rancho Cucamonga 5, Stockton 2 #

Arredondo: 1.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 6.93 ERA
The Quakes handed Branden Dewing his third loss, thanks mainly to a big three-run fourth. Stephen Marek earned his third win with 6.1 innings of shutout ball.
2007-08-05: Clinton 2, Cedar Rapids 4 #
Mount: 0-4
Ortiz, W: 2-4

Madrigal: (S, 10), 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 2.39 ERA
Sean O'Sullivan provided the Kernels with his third straight quality start, and his sixth in seven. Warner Madrigal converted his third straight save opportunity, for ten on the season, despite giving up a run in the top of the ninth.

Wilberto Ortiz, Matt Sweeney, and Mark Trumbo all got hits to start the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs and chasing Clinton starter Zachary Phillips.

2007-08-05: Orem 6, Casper 2 #
Gonzalez-Lopez: 2-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Brossman: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Perez: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Rosenbaum: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Fish: (W, 2-2), 5.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 7 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 3.53 ERA

Chambers: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1.46 ERA
The air got very homer-y in the seventh as Jay Brossman and Julio Perez both smacked longballs. Brossman is just begging for a promotion, as he's hitting a cool .400/.443/.546 over 185 AB. He's 22, so that factors in some, but... holy smoke, the kid's on fire.
2007-08-05: AZL Angels 4, AZL Rangers 8 #
Norman: 3-4, 1 RBI
Mann: 2-5, 1 RBI
Ortiz, N: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Knazek: 0-2, 2 BB
Anton: (L, 4-2), 5.0 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 3.46 ERA
Espinoza: 0.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 6.75 ERA
Gustavo Espinoza made his second appearance and gave up his first run of the season. Former Bruin Anthony Norman continued his brutalization of AZL pitching, as you would expect from a former NCAA player. The centerfielder drove in a run in today's game, and is hitting .353/.427/.500 so far.
2007-08-05: Las Vegas 8, Iowa 9 #
Maza: 3-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Hu, C: 4-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Freeman: 3-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB

Meloan: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1.08 ERA
Are you Cyrious? A-ha, hahahahaha... oh, I crack myself up. Eric Cyr had the shortest outing of his season, lasting only two and a third while surrendering seven runs, all earned. The Cubs just smacked him around, scoring in crooked numbers in each of the first three frames.

Luis Maza, who had only one longball all year prior to tonight, homered twice in the loss, both solo shots. The 51's mounted a stirring three-run comeback in the top of the eighth against reliever Rocky Cherry, who earlier in the year had been up with the Cubs for a spell. Cubs RF Felix Pie helped out by throwing away reliever Spike Lundberg's RBI single, which gave Wilson Valdez a chance to drive one in on a groundout. The 51's got another run closer in the top of the ninth when Choo Freeman cashed in Chin-Lung Hu, who had a 4-for-5 night at the plate, but with two out Wilkin Ruan ended the game with a lineout to left.

2007-08-05: Jacksonville 4, Chattanooga 5 (11 innings) #

Troncoso: (L, 6-2) (in relief), 0.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 3.62 ERA
Ramon Troncoso was very moroso after this game... well, maybe not, but he did take the loss, anyway, after giving up a leadoff, walkoff home run to Drew Anderson. Mark Alexander continued to make progress in his second tour of AA, pitching a pair of scoreless frames. Anthony Raglani hit a solo homer (his 17th), and Thomas Giles stroked a two-run jack in the seventh.

Stanke: (W, 1-6) (in relief), 4.0 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 8.07 ERA
Haldis: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 8.41 ERA
Brian Mathews' grand slam was the offensive highlight of this laugher against the Chukars, his fifth of the year. Kristopher Krise gave up three hits and struck out three over three zero frames; the win went to his replacement Cal Stanke, his first of the season, who pitched in the fifth.
2007-08-05: GCL Dodgers did not play

Comments:
When are the Dodgers finally going to bring up Meloan, who struck out the side in his inning? How about Meloan and Alexander for R. Hernandez and Seanez? I suppose they're waiting for Sept.

... or for him to develop a bat. Speaking of, I guess LaRoche's late offensive explosion is negated once again by Ned's vetruhn fetish. Pity, that.
