Salvage Job: Dodgers 6, Astros 3
It goes without saying that if the Dodgers are an allegedly contending team, they need to be beating teams like the sub-.500 Astros. Luckily for the Dodgers, they managed a salvage at home — at home! — against a team they should have been squarely whupping. Injuries, schminjuries. This isn't a good team.
Brad Penny got his first win in weeks (his first since July 26), and the team's first victory out of the starting rotation since that game, too, a span of 17 games. Good grief.
Russ Martin broke out of a pretty profound slump to homer twice, from which we may draw two lessons:
- Maybe if he were in the American League he could DH once in a while to rest his bones instead of going into 16-for-65 skids because he's so weary.
- Man, this team needs some pop.
