What's At Stake For The Dodgers
Since Jon's September 16 entreaty to get to 81 wins, the Dodgers have gone exactly 1-10. Clearly they're not listening, but there's more than just that at this point:
- If the season ended today, the Dodgers would draft fifteenth overall in 2008.
- LA has a winning record so far at 80-79, but there is still the open possibility that the Giants could sweep the upcoming homestand and give the Dodgers a losing season. If that happens, the Dodgers could sign a type-A free agent without having to surrender a first round draft pick.
- The Dodgers have been mathematically eliminated from finishing third; similarly, the Giants cannot finish fourth, so there is that small consolation.
Tonight's game: Kevin Correia (4-6, 3.20 ERA) against David Wells (8-9, 5.53 ERA).
Comments:
Sorry for the nitpick, but if the Dodgers go 1-2 they won't end the season with a losing record, right? Not that this season wasn't an overall loss, but still.
