Coon: 0-2, 2 BB
Morales: 2-4, 1 2B
Brown, M: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Wilson: 2-4
Pavkovich: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI

Arredondo: (S, 9), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.25 ERA
Kasey Olenberger picked up his first win since April 6 in a game that saw him pitch seven and two thirds innings, retiring the first 17 batters he faced before Chris Barnwell ended the perfect game with an infield single. Matt Brown and Adam Pavkovich both homered for the Bees; Dallas McPherson blasted his league-tying (with Fernando Tatis of New Orleans and Nelson Cruz of Oklahoma) 11th home run on the losing side. The Bees earned a split of the four-game series with the victory.
2008-05-09: Arkansas 2, Tulsa 4 #
Statia: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB
Sutton: 2-4
Smith, Cor: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 K
Toussaint: 0-4, 4 K
Czarniecki: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Mosebach: (L, 3-3), 7.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 8 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 4.57 ERA
Tulsa took the early lead in this one and never looked back on a poor outing by Bobby Mosebach, who failed to take advantage of a team that had lost six straight coming into this series. Corey Smith homered to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth, a leadoff shot and his fifth of the season.
2008-05-09: Rancho Cucamonga 6, High Desert 4 #
Bourjos: 3-5, 1 2B
Nieves: 2-5, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Trumbo: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Norman: 0-1, 1 RBI, 3 BB
Phillips: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Infante: 2-4
Leon: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Cook: (S, 2), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.26 ERA
Rancho got out to an early 2-0 lead in a wild first that saw a double steal by Peter Bourjos and Abel Nieves, a bases-loaded walk by Anthony Norman, an RBI single by P.J. Phillips, and an ill-advised steal of home to end the inning by Mark Trumbo, of all people... even more incredibly, the play went 1-3!

Amalio Diaz was perfect through three innings, but gave up the tying runs in the fourth and the go-ahead runs in the sixth. Fortunately, light-hitting Abel Nieves had other ideas, and hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth with nobody out, which eventually became the winning tally. Aaron Cook got his second save. Sammy Leon, previously with Cedar Rapids and making his third appearance in the Cal League this year, picked up his first win at this level.

2008-05-09: Cedar Rapids 5, Wisconsin 0 #
Moore: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 BB, 2 K
Romine: 0-4, 1 BB
Anton: (W, 5-1), 9.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 8 K, 2 BB, 2.09 ERA
Michael Anton pitched an excellent game, a complete game four-hit shutout for his fifth straight victory in six consecutive decisions and seven starts. "That's the first complete-game shutout of my career", he said afterwards.

The game was in a scoreless tie through six; the Kernels finally broke through in the top of the seventh on an unearned run when 3B Alex Liddi misplayed Angel Castillo's grounder, scoring Jay Brossman.

In the bottom of the seventh, with Gavin Dickey at third and one out, Alex Liddi hit a fly ball to left that Jeremy Moore returned to catcher Chris Rosenbaum. As Dickey tagged and headed home, Rosenbaum bobbled the ball but home plate umpire Brent Rice made no call as Dickey passed the plate; apparently Rosenbaum didn't feel Dickey had touched the plate, and Rosenbaum alertly recovered the ball and tagged Dickey for the double play. Dickey and Liddi both argued the call, resulting in their ejection from the game.

Wisconsin immediately became discombobulated following that, because Jerry Gonzalez-Lopez reached on an error, and a wild pitch by Walter Suriel allowed him to get to second. Two consecutive walks loaded the bases, and Efren Navarro, Jr. singled in a pair. That brought in Jose Escalona, who wild pitched in another run. With Jay Brossman re-loading the bases on a single, Escalona balked in another runner. 1B Ronald Garth's fielding error allowed Gordie Gronkowski to reach, and the bases re-re-loaded when the third pitcher of the inning, Ryan Moorer, hit the first batter he faced, Angel Castillo, but retired the next two batters he faced to end the bleeding. Whew.

Rubbing salt into the wound, Wisconsin hit into an inning-ending, unassisted lineout double play in the bottom of the eighth.

Koplove: (S, 3), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0.44 ERA
Exactly the reverse of last night's score, Memphis led this game through the middle of the seventh, at which time the 51's tied it up 3-3. Las Vegas made their big push in the eighth, with a rally sparked by Andy LaRoche's leadoff single; nabbing his first stolen base of the year, he elicited a bad throw by catcher Mark Johnson that got him to third, and Xavier Paul's RBI single plated him for the go-ahead run.

Koss: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 1.71 ERA
A big six-run fifth turned this one into a laugher; Eduardo Perez homered twice and collected four RBIs on the way. Josh Wall nailed down his fifth straight win; Paul Koss pitched two innings of shutout ball while striking out four. USC product Koss has one or more strikeouts per relief appearance since April 6, and has a 9.43 K/9 on the season.
