- The Dodgers are close to signing first-round draft pick Ethan Martin, who might ink a contract as early as Thursday.
- In related news, last year's first-round pick, Chris Withrow, has not pitched a game this year and has no ETA for a return to the mound.
- Via Jon, the Dodgers are close to the July 15 drop-dead date for informing Indian River County whether they intend to use their Vero Beach facilities in 2009.

The good part was the Bees bashed Tacoma pitching, early and often, with Adam Pavkovich and Jordan Czarniecki both blasting homers. Brandon Wood also had a good night at the plate, reaching base three times. Dee Brown paced the team with four RBIs, and Freddie Sandoval got three hits and a walk.
Factoid I was unaware of: the Angels apparently have principally moved Matt Brown to first base since June 3. Makes you wonder what Tony Reagins is thinking.

Really a pretty terrible game for the 51's, and Jonathan Meloan in particular, who melted down in the fifth after giving up only one run the prior four. Greg Miller allowed both his inherited baserunners to score and then some, giving up two more besides.

Comments:
Does the move of Brown to 1B have anything to do with Morales' injury?
Just curious.
Is Reagins thinking about trading Kotchman? It's possible - he'd be pretty coveted and honestly his play has disappointed me this season.
He's not drawing walks like he once was, the power spike in April was just that, a spike, and he isn't getting noticably better each year like I had expected. Maybe their tired of waiting on the guy - I don't think I'd trade him, but with other options (Morales) it is defensible, I guess.
