A Different Kind Of Marathon, Or, Has Frank Taken Away Ned's Credit Cards?

So comes the news (via Jon) in the Times of something strictly peculiar:
Dodgers owner Frank McCourt has agreed to provide financial backing to a new Los Angeles company that hopes to buy operating rights to the Los Angeles Marathon from its Chicago owner.
Thus the man for whom blocking the Adam Dunn trade was out of the question because the team might actually have to pay his remaining salary. Ditto for forcing the Red Sox to take on all of Manny Ramirez' remaining salary. A month ago, Eric Enders wondered whether McCourt has the pelf to swing such a deal; now you have to ask whether he simply doesn't trust Ned to go shopping on his own.
