Pickoff Moves

Today's Birthdays

Eddie Fisher CAL b. 1936, played 1969-1972, All-Star: 1965. He learned the knuckleball from Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm and rode it to an All-Star appearance. As is typical of butterfly pitchers, he led AL pitchers in relief appearances that year; the floater just doesn't tax your arm.

John Purdin LAN b. 1942, played 1964-1965, 1968-1969

Don Ross BRO b. 1914, played 1940, d. 1996-04-04

Norm Sherry LAN b. 1931, played 1959-1962

Tommy Tatum BRO b. 1919, played 1941, 1947, d. 1989-11-07

New Minor League Splits Database

Thanks to Marc Normandin for pointing out Jeff Sackmann's new minor league splits database. I'll change the sidebar links presently.

Roster Notes

Comments:
Anyone watching ESPN, NYM & CHC? Joe Morgan is so opinionated, that it doesnt take long to find something you disagree with him about... There's a website about that, firejoemorgan.com or something like that, but I tune in to hear him go off on tangents, and to miscall plays...

Yeah, I've got the game on in the other room. Funny, no?

I do think Joe is much better than Tim McCarver. At least Joe can put together an intelligent sentence, unlike Mr.McCarver.

For kicks, I created the Joe Morgan drinking game. During any game he works with Jon Miller, everytime he says the word "I", you have to take a drink. Try it next time your drinking beers with your buddies and watching a game on ESPN. You'll be sporting a good buzz by the 5th or 6th inning, trust me.

Fortunately for me, I can't drink anymore for medical reasons. On the other hand, my doctor still won't give me a note forbidding me to listen to Joe Morgan.
