Pickoff Moves
Tomato Juice: Dodgers 4, Blue Jays 3
The Dodgers suffered through Takashi Saito's first blown save of the season yet lived to get a win thanks to Olmedo Saenz' pinch-hit homer. You can fit some griping about not hitting with RISP in here some place, but I'm just enjoying the W, coming as it did after I left the gym; they don't have basic cable, and they sure don't have Prime Ticket.Out Of Positions: A's 5, Giants 3
What a crazy game up north in San Francisco last night! Three Giants left the field with injuries: left fielder Fred Lewis, catcher Benjie Molina (presumably injured), and reserve catcher Elizier Alfonso, too, leading to the emergency installation of Pedro Feliz behind the dish in the top of the tenth, the first time in his major league career he has been so used. Feliz was the team's fourth-string catcher; nominal emergency catcher Kevin Frandsen had already left the game, used as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the ninth. Bruce Bochy impressed Noah Lowry into service as the team's right fielder, and he immediately had to make a play on Jason Kendall's single. The A's plated two in the top of the tenth on Shannon Stewart's RBI single to win it, 5-3.Angels Third In New ESPN Power Rankings
The Angels rank third and the Dodgers place ninth in this week's ESPN Power Rankings.Roster Notes
- The Red Sox DFA'd lefty and ex-Angel J.C. Romero. Given his 3.15 ERA, he's likely to draw some interest in a trade.
- The Yanks purchased Roger Clemens' contract from AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Anybody interested in taking the over/unders on wins? He's set to cost the Yankees about $7M in luxury tax this year. Good.
- Speaking of just desserts, A.J. Pierzynski will serve a one-game suspension for arguing balls and strikes Thursday; he also threw his batting helmet towards but not directly at home plate umpire Bob Davidson. "Pierzynski admitted his reaction came out of frustration drawn from the team's struggles and that he deserved to be ejected for what he said," according to MLB.com staff writer Scott Merkin, and I couldn't agree more. Interestingly enough, this could cause the Chisox to call in shortstop Juan Uribe as the team's emergency catcher if it should come to that.
