Andrew Gallo Fails In Venue Change Bid
Gallo is charged with three counts of murder, driving under the influence, hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license. According to prosecutors, Gallo ran a red light and crashed into a car driven by Courtney Stewart at a Fullerton intersection. Police said he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19% -- more than twice the legal limit -- when he was tested two hours later.

"More than 95 percent of the people who suffer atlanto-occipital dislocation, called internal decapitation, die at the scene," said Dr. Nitin Bhatia, director of the Spine Center at UCI Medical Center. The astonishing story is unfolding in a second-floor office where Bhatia is chronicling how he and his 30-member team – in a five-hour operation – brought Wilhite into an elite medical community of four known survivors of similar injuries.

Orange County Flyers To Hold Benefit For Jon Wilhite July 6
FULLERTON, Calif. (6/29/2009) Orange County Flyer’s Manager Phil Nevin and the Golden Baseball League Champion Flyers organization are planning a huge fundraiser for former Titan Baseball Player Jon Wilhite on Monday, July 6 at Goodwin Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.Wilhite, 24, is the lone survivor of the fatal April 9 car crash that claimed the lives of Angel Pitcher Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
The Flyers have a big night planned beginning with FREE admission for everyone attending the game against the first place Northern Division Calgary Vipers. It will be Calgary’s first visit back to Goodwin Field since the Flyers beat them 10-9 last September in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the GBL Crown.
Nevin, a former number one Major League Baseball draft pick after having a standout career at Cal State Fullerton, is a close friend and strong supporter of Wilhite and his foundation.
“It’s about the Titan family, plain and simple,” Nevin said. “These tragic things happen every day, but when they happen in your family you stop, take a look and do everything you can to help family.”
The Special Night will include a silent auction with great sports and Hollywood memorabilia from many of Nevin’s Major Legaue friends along with other local professional sports teams and Hollywood stars.
Besides the silent auction, every inning there will be raffle drawings for all fans in attendance for lots of great prizes donated by OC Flyers partners, supporters and friends of the Wilhite Foundation. There will also be special buckets around the park to make additional donations.
“Here is our chance to join together and help a brother in need,”said Flyer Chief Operating Officer Dan MacLeith. “Each of us would want the same if we were in his place. Even in these trying times, there is generosity in the heart of man that surpasses all else. We have a chance to be a blessing to another and should not pass it up.”
Before the game, the Flyers will be honoring Jon and his family with the throwing out of the first pitch. There will also be a moment of silence for Jon’s three close friends who were tragically taken from us in the crash in Fullerton.
Other invited guests for the night at this time are the Fullerton Fire Department’s First Responders who helped get Jon out of the car and to the hospital. More special guests will be announced as they are confirmed.
The entire night is designed to raise funds for Jon’s costly rehabilitation. He is currently undergoing a lengthy and extensive program at a local rehabilitation center in Orange. A's Catcher Kurt Suzuki Raising Funds For Fellow Ex-Titan Jon Wilhite
Catcher Kurt Suzuki got to visit his former Cal State-Fullerton teammate Jon Wilhite, the lone survivor from the April 9 car crash that killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others. Wilhite underwent brain surgery shortly after the accident and is gradually recovering.Wilhite survived an internal decapitation in the accident, an injury that is almost always fatal."You want to see him get better, as a friend," Suzuki said. "The more I talked to him, I saw his personality come out again."
Suzuki and his wife, Renee, are raising funds for the Jon Wilhite Recovery Fund.

Correction To Yesterday's Report On Courtney Stewart
Price said Stewart's peripheral blood alcohol content of .06 is the correct measurement, as was testified to by a doctor during grand jury hearings in the case. Price said because Gallo was at fault in the accident, Stewart's blood alcohol content is irrelevant.

Randall Longwith, Gallo's attorney, confirmed that he received a copy of the toxicological report yesterday in discovery materials provided by the DA's office, which has an obligation to share potentially exculpatory information with the defense. "Ultimately, we are talking about a murder allegation here based on, in essence, a traffic violation," he said. "We have two people, both are intoxicated, and we are having a murder trial over a traffic infraction with tragic consequences."Gallo had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.

Adenhart Mourned In Williamsport, MD
Nicholas James Adenhart -- the 22-year-old rookie pitcher for the Angels killed by a suspected drunken driver on April 9 -- called Williamsport his home. He lived on Rockcrest Court. He played in the Halfway Little League for Gehr Construction. He attended Springfield Middle School and Saint Maria Goretti, a private parochial school in nearby Hagerstown, then Williamsport High School after his sophomore year.Rod Steiner, retired baseball coach for Williamsport High School, lit a candle for his former player, Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, at Greenlawn cemetery in Williamsport, Md.
He acted up in class. He stole Christmas decorations with his buddies and charmed his way out of sticky situations. He pitched a no-hitter and led Williamsport High to a state championship game his senior year. Even after being drafted by the Angels in 2004, Adenhart returned every offseason to spend time with his father, Jim.
"He loved this place," Jim Adenhart said. But the town loved Nick Adenhart even more. Without Adenhart, professional baseball scouts would have had little reason to make the 77-mile journey from Baltimore or Washington, D.C., to the small river town on the West Virginia border.
By 2003, they arrived by the dozens, toting notebooks and radar guns, and camped behind the backstop for each 94 mph fastball. They loved Adenhart's composure and took note of his poise -- qualities, scouts surmised, he learned by growing up in a town where nothing was achieved without hard work.
